Science Confirms Fasting For Weight Loss Is Safe And Effective
OK. You have heard it said that when you fast that your body loses muscle mass, not just fat. Well, there are too many scientific studies to prove the opposite. It just isn’t true that the body will consume lean body mass, no matter what the other experts say.
The problem is that there is so much media attention against fasting – that it is supposedly harmful to your health. The explanation for this is rather simple yet rather entrenched, as it were. Let’s look at them briefly.
Perhaps you have heard the saying that an untruth that is told often enough is eventually accepted as truth and this applies just as much in the diet and fitness industry as any other. Just because Dr. Jones said so, along with dozens of other experts, doesn’t make it true. Perhaps they had a vested interest in getting you to believe them. It will take some common sense on our part to learn to sort through all the misinformation out there, especially as it concerns diets and fasting for weight loss.
What would happen to the multi-billion dollar industry if more and more folks realized that fasting for weight loss does work and is safe. Imagine a world with no diet pills, weight loss plans, weight loss books!
The fact is that since there is no money is fasting for weight loss, no one will promote it (except for fanatics, like me!)
But what about the thing about ”starvation mode” – you know where the body supposedly slows down your metabolism to account for the lack of food. This in turn supposed causes your body to hold on to fat and even gain during a fast. It just isn’t so. It has been shown that is may reduce your caloric burn by about 100 calories which is like a coffee with half n half. Certainly not the huge reduction that experts propose.
But scientifically speaking, though, what happens when the body fasts? Assuming you maintain a normal amount exercise (you don’t need to stop a regular fitness program when you fast), during a short 24 to 72 hours fast you will lose fat while preserving muscle mass. There is scientific proof that while you fast, there is an increase in human growth hormone, you know that stuff celebs pay big bucks for, is secreted. It is because of this little bonus hormone that you can’t help but lose fat.
Now, if you think fasting for 24 hours is unimaginable then think about this: you already fast for up to 12 hours every night, right? So, you choose the time to fast. You never go a day with out some food in it. Eat dinner then fast all the way till the next dinner. Breakfast till the next breakfast. Nice and easy!
Really, fasting is the easiest most forgiving way to lose weight of all. No counting calories, or fat grams or carbs. No fancy or complicated menus to follow. Just eat the way you do all the rest of the time. NO more stressing over food. Just go without for 24 hours once or twice a week.
