My drink of choice has been soda for as long as I can remember. I know that it’s not good for me, but I can’t help myself. I enjoy a good soda more than anything else, and I’ve had plenty of them during my life.
As much as I happen to love about soda, I’ve had to struggle with my obsession recently. It’s time for me to focus on my health, and I figure that cutting soda out of my diet will be a major step in the right direction.
I can go on for hours about all of the reasons not to drink soda. Many experts believe that it’s one of the leading contributors to obesity, and I’m not surprised. Unfortunately, I’ve gone on a soda hiatus. Surprisingly, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.
It’s hard to imagine completely cutting it out of your diet, but after a few weeks, I’ve had no problem with the idea of this. I attribute it to a few substitutes that I’ve really come to enjoy. Let’s look at a few of my favorites.
Go for a seltzer if you still need some bubbles in your life. Sure, it won’t be as sweet as soda, but they make flavored versions that you might enjoy some more. The best thing about seltzer is that it has no calories.
If you seek a little more flavor, opt for a carbonated fruit drink. There are plenty of these, and the key will be to get one that’s completely natural. One brand that you may enjoy is Fizzy Lizzy, as their brand of sparkling juice drinks has no additives and tastes great.
If neither of these drinks sounds appealing to you, why not opt for something more serene, like a green tea? This will give you a small amount of caffeine that others won’t, and the herbal qualities of the drink make many feel calm and relaxed. There are plenty of document health benefits to green tea, including the antioxidants you’ll find in the drink.
Any one of the above drinks in place of soda will have a profoundly positive impact on your life. Are you ready to make a change?

The Reasons To Consider Walking
Having moved to a big city a few years ago, I realized something really eye opening. The average person here seems to weigh less than one does in other places I’ve lived and visited.
Do we eat healthier foods? Perhaps to an extent, though the city is filled with delicious pizza restaurants, burger joints, and other unhealthy food genres that seem to attract very many patrons on a regular basis.
The answer definitely has something to do with a small daily activity that has a profound impact on weight loss. This activity is walking. No one really drives a car here, which requires most people to walk in order to get from one place to another.
Whether someone’s walking to a friend, their job, the subway, or more, it’s not at all uncommon to spend a lot of time walking through the course of a day. People don’t blink at the thought of walking a mile to get somewhere.
While those living in towns would very obviously drive from one destination to another, you might want to consider the idea of walking. It saves money on gas costs, and it benefits your body.
Let’s say you spent 30 minutes walking on a daily basis. You’d probably end up burning off close to 100 calories during this span. Do that for a month, and you can see how that might add up over time. Now consider the idea of doing it for years.
That’s over nearly the equivalent of running a mile at a pretty aggressive pace. You’d have to think that someone who ran a mile per day would be in pretty good physical condition, wouldn’t you?
If you think it might be boring, set the time aside to call a friend or someone else who you enjoy talking to. Find a friend to walk with if you prefer not to do it alone.
Try walking once or twice per day instead of driving, as long as the distance allows you to do so. You’d be amazed at the difference it ends up making over time.

Reasons to Consider Running Daily
Running is an absolutely huge part of my life. It’s something that I believe everyone should do. Even though it’s hard to motivate sometimes, I’m always pushing myself to make sure that I did my running for the day.
Still, the benefits of running are clear as day to me and there’s one thing I’ve noticed about it all. I’ve never regretted running after I’ve finished a run.
No matter how easy or hard the run ways, my body is always uplifted once it’s all done. Any resistance all stems from the brain, which is good and bad. The good news is that we can overcome this all. Unfortunately, it’s still hard to do.
Running is great for both the body and mind. Not only is it a great means of burning calories and keeping our weight down, but the process of running releases endorphins to the rest of the body, making you feel naturally happy after a run.
They also say that it’s great for you mentally too. It triggers receptors in the brain that make it easier to focus on work and other normally challenging tasks.
No one likes the idea of getting up to go for a grueling run, especially if they’re tired. Still, there’s a clear benefit to running every day and you should absolutely consider doing it for the reasons listed above.
If you need some help motivating, do some things that may make it all easier. Run indoors with a television that you can watch. Listen to some music that will pump you up. You can even read while you run if you feel that it might help.
Yet another thing I’d strongly recommend doing is challenging yourself to achieve new best times when you’re running, in addition to new best distances. As long as you’re constantly improving both your speed and time, you’ll naturally look forward to each day’s run since you’ll have the chance to establish a new personal best.

How To Run A Mile In Six Minutes
I was 14 years old, and I felt like I was about to collapse. I had just run a mile in less than 7 minutes, and I was thrilled. I wasn’t ready to stop there, however.
Fate dictated otherwise, and I ended up getting hurt during a lacrosse game the following week. I was unable to run for the rest of the year and I wasn’t happy about this. I never got back into running again.
After a twelve year hiatus, I decided to give it another go. There was no good reason not to run anymore, and I’ve been trying to lose some weight. Anyway, seven minutes happened pretty easily for me. I guess I’m stronger now, and I wanted to try for six minutes from there.
After weeks of trying for 6 minutes flat out, I was unable to do it. I was fine with seven minutes, and even with six and a half, but I would always get stopped short on the third or fourth lap in my run, simply out of energy.
Here are a few tips I’m going to give you that eventually helped me to get to where I was.
The biggest thing that made it happen was the fact that I started doing short runs at faster speeds. I would run a mile at a five minute pace, naturally stopping after two laps. This put me in a really good position to try for a 6 minute mile, which seemed easy in comparison.
Believe me, it’s not much fun running two laps at such a fast pace. If you’re serious about breaking that six minute mark though, you’ll want to do this in order to get there.
Next goal on my list is 5:30 and I’m sure I’ll be achieving it.

Forget Dieting Over The Holidays
Changing your focus from dieting to living healthy during the holidays boosts the chances of maintaining your perfect weight.
“Many of us will gain at least five pounds from the middle of October through New Year’s Day,” said Stefanie Barthmare, a psychotherapist with the Methodist Weight Management Center in Houston. “Because weight gain is gradual, we don’t realize the damage of our indulgences right away. But the scale tells all when the holidays are over. That’s why “lose weight” is at the top of our New Year’s resolution every year.”
Barthmare says stop counting every calorie and restricting yourself from your holiday favorites and instead try focusing on the core elements of living a healthy lifestyle, i.e. staying active in your everyday life.
“If you can’t get to the gym, do whatever it takes to move your body. Walk the dog more, plan a walking coffee break at work, play in the yard with the kids after dinner, or throw the football around with your brothers,” Barthmare said. “Plan an active, rather than a passive vacation this holiday season. If you normally go somewhere to sit, read and eat, plan a trip where you hike, bike or ski. Learn a new sport just for fun, and notice the impact on your waistline.”
Have a plan for days when there will be high calorie meals and possibly stressful family gatherings that cause you to eat comfort foods. Not planning is what leads to trouble.
“The once-a-year mentality contributes to overindulgence, which eventually leads to weight gain,” Barthmare said. “You can still have a serving of grandma’s stuffing or mom’s apple pie, the stuff you only get once a year, but it’s important to develop a strategy. Filling up on more high fiber, high volume foods earlier in the day will give yourself a better chance of maintaining your weight. Also, then there’s not as much room for the seconds at dessert.”
Another way to avoid overindulgence is to turn the focus of holiday gatherings away from food and to connecting with family and friends. Put more emphasis on finding out what others have been doing, what you have in common and how you can support one another at holiday functions.
“If you’ve been dieting all year long, you’re going to want to cut loose during the holidays and indulge in all your favorite treats,” Barthmare said. “But, this year, try switching the focus. Eat well all year, keep your body moving and make time for connections. Then you can have some guilt free holiday indulgences without sacrificing the goal of maintaining your perfect weight.
