Great Ways To Fail At Weight Loss

Great Ways to Fail at Weight Loss

Millions of people in America are trying to lose weight without much success. There are many reasons for this failure, although most would rather give up than fix their mistakes. Weight loss is hard! Without a little patience and knowledge about nutrition and exercise, your best weight loss plan may crumble. Learning the top reasons why weight loss plans fails is important so that you do not make these mistakes in your own life.

First, many weight loss plans fail because the people trying to lose weight follow too strict of a diet. When you cut back your calories, you will burn more than you eat, so you’ll lose weight, right? If you do this gradually, then yes, it works like a charm. However, if you suddenly cut too many, you won’t lose any weight at all because you metabolism will slow down. You also put yourself at danger for not getting enough for the vitamins, minerals, proteins, and other nutrients you need every single day in order to stay healthy.

Another common mistake is trying to go at weight loss alone. Everything you do regarding weight loss, from dieting to exercising, will be a hundred times easier if you have a partner because you will push each other not to quit. Working with a support system on a large scale is also important. Your friends and family should know that you are attempting to lose weight so that they can help you on the process and not tempt you by doing things like baking you cookies or taking up your gym time. Also, remember that professionals, like doctors and trainers, should come into the weight loss plan to help you shed the pounds.

Setting unrealistic goals is another good way to fail at a weight loss plan. When you set goals that you can’t easily reach, you push yourself to move forward and will feel successful even if you fall short. However, when you set impossible goals, you will find that you are easily frustrated. Don’t weigh in every day, don’t completely cut out all of the foods you eat on a regular basis, and don’t exercise to much right away. Gradually build up to reaching the goals you really want for your life, but smart out with smaller ideas.

Lastly, simply know yourself. Weight loss plans fail when you attempt to be something you are not. Maybe you have wide hips-a weight lose plan won’t completely change that, for example. You have to be happy with yourself on the inside before you change things on the outside in order to succeed at losing weight.

Keeping Motivated To Maintain A Healthy Weight

Despite knowing you want to lose weight, get a healthy body and maintain it, it can be hard to find the motivation to lose weight and actually keep it off long term. We all know that fad diets don’t work, but we’re not so good at sticking to effective weight loss plans that we know will ultimately work – IF we stick to it.

The following tips will give you the tools you need to understand how to keep motivated to lose weight from now on.

Build A Case For Losing Weight: Collect Evidence

One way to build up your inner drive to make life changing shifts and get your weight under control is to collect evidence to build a case against yourself for losing weight. The purpose behind this is to prove the point to yourself that that you urgently need to lose some weight, and you can accomplish that by using pitcures.

Take a few photographs of yourself as you are today, and then find pictures of yourself from years past. Get together as many photographs as you can that feature you at various different weights and times in your life. Then arrange them on a table in order of time or glue them onto a paper or poster board.

It is very difficult to deny how overweight you are when you are looking at yourself from an outer perspective. Do you represent the person you know you are inside? Can you use this to motivate you to to go back to the days when you were healthy and thin?

Set Fitness Goals

When you want to lose weight it is easy to forget the bigger picture and only pay attention to the scale. You can motivate yourself to get the scale moving by setting fitness targets that have nothing to do with weight. For instance, sign up for an upcoming 10k event and plan to walk it. Alternate targets may be to build up to doing a certain amount of chin ups, sit ups, or push ups. You could even try to build up to doing one handed push ups, for example.

You can train to run if the race is far enough away and you can realistically get into good enough shape to be able to handle it. What you should definitely NOT do however is set yourself up for disappointment with unrealistic goals, so make sure it is achievable. Doing so will ensure you maintain your motivation to lose weight in an effective manner.

Create Friendly Contests

Get some friends on board and come up with a friendly competition. You can all pitch in to get a nice reward that will be given to the person who wins.

If its hard for you to find people in real life to take part in this there are many online weight loss forums that have a lot of contests going on on a regular basis.

Use Visual Incentives

Perhaps there is a particular type of clothing that you would really love to put on? Maybe it’s a little sundress with strappy sandals or a pair of short shorts without cellulite and fat jiggling out underneath. Regardless of what it is, purchase it in the size you ultimately want to get to put it up somewhere you will see it daily.

You can also put it on occasionally for a visual reminder of the progress you have made!

Notice that most of these tools for getting motivated to lose weight require forward thinking. It’s about taking action now because you want something better for yourself in the future, as opposed to focusing on what you have to give up now.

Weight Loss Motivation – Staying Positive

Having a positive mental attitude is key to keeping your motivation for weight loss. It’s a fact of life, positive people tend to have more successes in life, they tend to be happier, more fulfilled and worry less. With the right positive attitude, your chances of succeeding greatly increases. You have to pay as much attention to what’s going on in your head as what’s on your plate. Like they say in tennis, it is 80% mental, 20% skill. So how can we stay positive such at such a daunting task?

Here are a couple of ideas:

1) Shorter goals

Have shorter term goals so they are easier to achieve. Examples may be: not eating meat for one day, or running 5 minutes longer than the last day, or biking to work for a day. You get the rough idea. Setting shorter term goals makes it easier for to achieve them and therefore we are able to celebrate more often. This provides good motivation and a feeling of progress.

2) Don’t have a hard time

Keep in mind that weight loss is a conscious decision made by YOU, not someone else. You have made this choice and it is going to benefit you the most. So why make it hard on yourself? If going to the gym 5 times a week is too hard of a goal, then change it to 3 times a week or even once a week. Whatever you do, it should be a pleasant experience. It’s easier to keep up motivation and be positive when you feel better about the whole experience.

3) Group for support

Having a group or someone for support is a very effective to maintaining positive attitude and motivation. There are a many ways to find one. It could be a colleague, friend or family. Many support groups for weight loss also exist online. There should also be clubs and groups for outdoor activity in your area. Try a running club, or hiking group. You will get to meet new people and find support.

Remember that a positive attitude is half the battle. And as Winston Churchill once said, “Never, never, never, never give up.
